Ayon Stratos - VACUUM TUBE Ayon Audio is pleased to introduce the new audiophile “Stratos “ reference DAC. The Stratos is also prepared for computer playback and general DSD professional audio use. The quad differential gain stage is composed of 2 high performance tubes per channel. The Stratos DAC features a vastly overrated, high capacity power supply for the analog output stage with tube “bridge” rectification, choke coupling and two oversized power transformers. The sound is powerful with fantastic bass speed, extraordinary dynamic, airy, finely detailed and outstanding 3D holographic. The Stratos offers an uncompromising build and reference sound quality level in every aspect. Features & Design Full-featured Tube D/A converter Class-A triode vacuum-tube output stage for single-ended & balanced operationSignal Path We believe that the simplest circuits work best together with the shortest signal path. That is why our pre-amplifiers to date have used single-ended pure class-A circuitry. The shorter the signal path is, the less possibility of sonic degradation from various sources, including the wire itself. Even on the circuit boards, the copper traces are kept to a very minimum length. The completely redesigned circuit board provides a more straightforward and direct approach to the signal paths. Logical sequenced soft-start power up for extended tube life Warm up function 0dB negative feedback (of any kind ) Ultra short signal path Simplest direct circuit path for purest musical sound and high reliability Low output impedance for driving long runs interconnect to an amplifier, and any tube or solid state power amp No solid state devices in the analog tube output (signal path ) Minimal discrete wiring for optimum signal propagation No followers or buffers in the signal path High quality parts throughout Fully hand assembled to insure the highest level of craftsmanship Separate analog output stage for left and right channel Analog inputs ( single-eded and fully balanced) All digital inputs Internal hardware PCM upsampler for CD sources to 24/192K (can be disabled) Native 192kHz PCM and DSDx128 conversion Ultra-low jitter internal clock generator USB input (24/192 asynchronous and DSD) Power SupplyThe power supplies have been further refined with new components and enhanced AC line noise filtration. Separate power transformer windings and filters provide total isolation between the input and output stage which makes this a pure power source and it is a critical attribute for a 6H30 output stage. Zodiac Platinum DSD 256 / 768 K DAC Trade in your old ...
I'll take your older Zodiac, Zodiac Plus or Zodiac Gold in trade on the new Platinum for partial payment. This year at RMAF I used the Platinum with the new 10M audiophile Atomic Clock. Check out what the the Audio Traveler had to say. http://theaudiotraveler.com/2014/10/17/rmaf-2014-sound-science-and-king-sound-clock-an-antelope/ I have had the privilege of using the New Platinum DAC since RMAF 2013, even with out using it with an Atomic Clock on its clock input it set a new level of performance handily besting the Zodiac Gold that Stereophile Rated A+ and now ranks the Platinum A+. I know you are tired of hearing guys like me talking about how a veil was lifted but consider this, the part time Audiophile Scott Hull, reported that my Room with the King III speakers, the Music Vault M7 and Zodiac Platinum sounded as good or better as all the megabuck $200K and up rooms at RMAF. My source was the New Music Vault M7 and converted by the Platinum on Saturday into sublime analog. The Platinum also functions as a spectacular Preamplifier, with 2 analog inputs and the following Digital inputs: USB, 2 coax spdif, 2 optical spdif, AES/EBU balanced digital out. Now I am certain that this DAC sounds better than what ever DACs you are used to as the Zodiac Gold sounds as good or better than the overwhelming majority of DACs out there and the Platinum takes this performance to a whole new level that must be heard to be appreciated. The Platinum will make you smile and you will have a very hard time turning your stereo off once you start to listen to it. Delivery starts in September so place your order with me now as they are going to run out quickly. The following is from the Antelope Web Site. The widest DSD support and sample rate Zodiac Platinum DSD DAC provides the widest DSD support, including the unique 256X mode and a sample rate of 768 kHz via a custom-built USB chip. The extreme DSD256 greatly extends the accuracy and transparency of the audio reproduction as well as the overall system performance. The custom-designed Antelope USB chip compliments high fidelity by reducing clock jitter and pushing the envelope of the USB streaming with sample rates four times higher than those offered by similar devices. Distinctive pedigree and highly evolved technology Zodiac Platinum has inherited the stepped relay volume control and the dual stage headphone drivers with impedance control from its very successful and highly appreciated predecessor Zodiac Gold. The Platinum also comes with an elegant remote control and has the option for external audiophile grade power supply Voltikus. In addition to the PC and Mac control panels available in the Zodiac Line, the Platinum also offers the comfort of the remote control from a mobile application, available for Android and iOS. Whereas many top of the line DACs offer PCM upsamplers, the Platinum is the first device to offer a DSD upsampler. This distinctive feature allows the upsampling of DSD64 to DSD256, pushing DSD noise into higher frequencies, vastly improving the quality of the D/A conversion. The Platinum bypasses internal digital filters built into the DAC chip by implementing a custom upsampler with carefully designed high-precision filters in the FPGA. Signature Antelope clocking In the heart of the new Platinum lie the renowned 64-bit Acoustically Focused Clocking and the ultra-low jitter oven-controlled crystal oscillator, which are Antelope’s signature for unprecedented sound quality appreciated by the best recording, mastering and post production studios around the world. In addition, the Platinum is equipped with a 10 MHz input for the legendary Antelope 10M Rubidium atomic clock, providing the most accurate and stable clocking reference and therefore an uncompromised digital to analog conversion. Nº585 The foundation of the No585 is its fully discrete, mirror-imaged, dual-monaural analog circuitry featuring individual signal switching relays for each of its four stereo inputs: one XLR and three RCA. Volume controls use discrete 15-bit R-2R ladders and low-noise analog switches for the widest possible bandwidth and maximum signal integrity. The fully-differential Class AB power stage includes an oversized 900VA toroidal transformer with individual secondary windings for the left and right channels. Each elegantly simple amplifier channel utilizes twelve output transistors and multiple smaller local capacitors that allow them to be placed physically closer to the amplifiers for greater transient response when power is needed immediately. This robust architecture results in a conservative power rating of 200W per channel with stability into 2 ohms. System integration and expansion are possible using the stereo RCA preouts which can operate full-range or with an included switchable, second-order, 80Hz crossover filter allowing for seamless integration into 2.1-channel systems with powered subwoofers. BEL CANTO DAC 2.5 e.One + PreAmp Black Face 9/10 1st Ow...
I am the original owner of this remarkable DAC, bought locally in San Francisco at a popular dealer's (I have receipts) "brick and mortar" store a little over 2 years ago. It has the Black face plate, which I prefer and is more difficult to find on the used market.-Bel Canto engineer and CEO, John Stronczer, has designed a Class D unit that also embodies highly detailed music, balance from top to bottom, high dynamic range, and a general smoothness that ties everything together. * This is a DAC/processor, which has a built-in Digital Preamp with volume control, and the volume is adjusted in the digital realm, so there is less distortion than in a traditional analog product. ** The unit also has a linear dedicated headphone amp with separate power supply. *** Other capabilities include R/L balancing, Phase Inversion, HTB/Home Theater Bypass .... done on the fly in your listening chair via the remote control*** Inputs on the back of the unit: 1 USB, 2 SPDIF/RCA, 1 AES/BEU, 1 Toslink *** Outputs: 1 pair of RCA and 1 pair of XLR. The XLR outs are 4V RMS, so have good power. I used XLRs to run straight into my amplifier, and used the Bel Canto DAC as a PreAmp as well, with great success. This combo has an incredible clean and fast sound. ***No BS, you won't believe how quiet the background is. I know you may not believe me, so I'm going to say it again: Background = inky black, NO BS.-Please See other Specs from the Bel Canto website: they are pretty impressive-I am moving and need to raise funds, sorry no trades. *I will pay Shipping fees to the lower 48 if the buyer buys at my asking price. Otherwise, we can split the PayPal and Shipping fees. If I can't sell at this price then I will just keep the unit. My asking price is less than half at the asking price. I've lost a lot of money over the years buying and selling equipment and thats fine, its part of the hobby and thats my choice. But this unit is certainly worth more than my asking price, its too bad more folks aren't familiar with Bel Canto products. Your ears will thank you. thanksGary...... you can email me direct at firstname.lastname@example.org

Allnic Audio D5000 DHT DAC
I purchased this from new late last year and was most impressed by how musical this DAC is. It is flawless in mint condition but I am looking to upgrade and hence the reason for selling this DAC. Includes manual and apple remote. This is the latest upgraded version. Asking price: $7,200.This unit is 220-240V but can be factory modified to 110V. The D5000 is very unique in today’s DAC world because most of its components are not from any routine audio market source except the DAC chips. The USB interface, SPDIF receiver and high end upsamplers are all specifically customized for this application. D5000 uses very unique technologies for audio signal processing. The clock does not directly connect to the DAC chip. Instead, the audio processor uses clock alignment algorithms that determine exact alignment for the DAC chip in a real-time manner. The ES9018K2M SABRE 32 Reference DAC chip is a high performance 32-bit, 2-channel audio D/A converter with sampling to 32/384 kHz, 128 DSD and uses a 1.5 MHz upsampler through a field-programmable gate array USB interface. While most ES9018K based DACs use the dac chip for audio processing, the D5000 has a proprietary internal processor that performs real time PCM upsampling or upsampling and conversion to DSD. The SABRE Reference DAC chip only performs the digital to analog conversion. Real-time PCM to DSD conversion function is implemented when “conversion” is selected. All input samples are converted to 128 DSD with an internal 5.6 MHz/32 Bit upsampler and DSD converter. When de-selected, input audio sampling is either upsampled, if selected, or bypassed to the DAC chip. The USB interface is implemented through custom hardware by Waversa Systems and is UAC2 standard compliant. This provides very clean audio through complete galvanic isolation, thereby stripping the digital signal of any PC noise commonly created by the server’s internal power supply. Thesycon driver is provided for Windows application. Drivers are not required for Mac/Linux. I2S input will be provided in the near future. This separate system will be connected to DAC by a proprietary method through the AES port and provide not only PCM but also DSD. This system has the capability to support extreme upsample and cross conversion between DSD and PCM. Details will be published on a future date. Every source component has a word clock that sends an impulse to the D/A converter ‘x’ times per second triggering it to take a sample - this becomes the sampling rate. The precision of this clock determines accuracy of the conversion process which is essential to avoid frequency drift between the internal oscillators of the device. The D5000 frame clock provides synchronization information to the outside device allowing it to precisely match the D5000 MEMS clock. If word clock input is provided then the D5000 internal system will use word clock for playback. By providing an exact data rate, data overrun or underrun are avoided and this reduced jitter creates clearer transients, pronounced attack, crisp inner detail in the higher frequencies and overall improved stereo image. Exogal Comet Superb Upgradable DSD DAC w/great reviews
Underwood Hifi is glad to announce that we are the new USA Exogal Distributors. Exogal (which means Out of this Galaxy) is a Minnesota company that makes DAC's and amplifiers. Its DNA comes from original Wadia engineers. Jim Kinne who designed the original Wadia gear is legendary and did the original Wadia gear that is still considered exceptional. Jim is now designing state of the art products at affordable prices. Dealer inquiries welcome The Exogal Comet is a high performance digital to analog audio converter (DAC) that is also a pre-amplifier with an analog input for your phono stage. Just connect your computer, or other digital or analog sources, and experience exceptional audiophile quality sound. The Comet DAC does everything you would expect a high-end DAC to do, including balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, digital volume control and asynchronous USB input - all at a sensible price. The Comet uses an FPGA for its DAC. That means that unlike the competition that uses a commercially available DAC chip from from companies like ESS, Wolfson or Burr brown, the Comet is all programmed by Exogal and is upgradable over the web. So it offers built in NON Obsolescence.Free freight in the USAComet reviews have been exceptional. THE ABSOLUTE SOUND REVIEW May / June 2015Review of the Comet by Vade Forester. He says: "As a DAC and front end for digital sources, the Comet is a spectacular success and, especially at its moderate price, I strongly recommend you audition it in your system." Read the whole review on The Absolute's Sound's websiteMore and more – the word on the street about Exogal is spreading. Here is another new comment – this time from Jeff Fritz while reviewing a $65,000 dollar Swiss-made amplifier. Yes, the Exogal Comet is his Preamp/DAC. My setup has changed over the past year. I’ve ditched my analog preamp for a DAC with input switching: currently, the Exogal Comet ($2500) with optional external power supply ($600 if purchased separately; you get a $100 break if you buy them together, for a total of $3000). The Comet has increasingly impressed me over the past few months. In fact, it’s fair to say that I didn’t rave hard enough about it in my review (to be fair to myself, I didn’t yet have the external power supply when I wrote that article). It’s a giant killer. The external power supply added solidity to the soundstage and “blacker” backgrounds overall, thus raising the performance level several notches. "I've never heard such a detailed, resolving DAC at this price. ... It sounds great not only for its price, but regardless of price." SoundstageAUDIOSTREAM REVIEW 3-5-2015Michael Lavorgna reviewed the Comet. He says: "I'm not going to sugarcoat this: The Exogal Comet DAC is one fine sounding piece of technology."Ultra High-End Audio and Home Theater ReviewFrank Berryman gives EXOGAL’s Comet DAC a glowing review and concludes that the “...Exogal Comet has few if any peers in its class..” All reviews have been with the stock power supply. We were shocked at how much better it is with the upgraded power supply now available for only $500.00 with purchase of the DAC or $600.00 as an add on if purchased later. The new Exogal software allows the digital volume control to lose no resolution at any volume level so it makes a great front end to drive an amp. The analog input allows connection of an analog source such as a phono stage so no preamp is required in a digital system with a turntable. The Comet is designed for real-life listening with sound that’s amazing, whatever the setting. It offers easy digital upgrades for hardware and software. It is controlled by the Exogal Remote App for Android or Apple iOS as well as the included remote control. The new matching ION power amp will be out in July and is designed to turn this DAC/Amp package into a full Power DAC that will compete with far more expensive packages from only $5750.00. Features: Asynchronous USB, AES/EBU, SPDIF, Toslink, and line level Analog input Direct connection analog outputs with 32-bit Digital Volume Control Analog Outputs: one pair balanced (XLR), one pair unbalanced (RCA), one stereo Headphone Single ended and balanced analog outputs can be used simultaneously. Single ended outputs can be programmed as stereo, or center/subwoofer operation. Mojo Audio Mystique NOS AD1865N-K DAC v1.0 w/ Coaxial S...
The most analog-like presentation possible from a digital source. No digital filters, noise shaping, upsampling, oversampling, or error-correction algorithms. Direct-coupled analog output stage with no coupling capacitors or output transformers to limit bandwidth or color the sound. Our DAC preserves rather than interprets the digital signal. __________________________________________________________________________________ Demo unit Mystique DAC v1.0 in like-new condition: Built around Analog Devices' famous AD-1865N-K R-2R chip. Decodes HD 24-Bit 192kHz files through a coaxial S/PDIF Input. 45-day no-risk audition and 5-year warranty.__________________________________________________________________________________ Error prevention vs. error correction: To eliminate bit read errors, our power supply incorporates over 237,000uf of capacitive filters and seven Belleson ultralow-noise high-dynamic regulators that independently isolate each stage of IC chips. The analog output stage is direct-coupled to provide the most linear and extended frequency response possible by eliminating output coupling capacitors and transformers that narrow bandwidth and cause phase and time distortion. Because algorithms can't appreciate music: With no digital filtering, digital noise shaping, upsampling, oversampling, or error-correcting algorithms, our digital signal path is the purest possible. This is not true of many so-called non-oversampling designs that still incorporate algorithms for noise shaping and error correction. Unparalleled harmonic coherency: Unlike most non-oversampling designs that use a single logic gate for demultiplexing the left and right channel signals, our circuit assures 100% phase and time coherency between channels by using a bank of six logic gates to perfectly align the bits of the left and right digital words to the same clock cycle. And to assure the smoothest possible phase transition, the left and right channels both have an independent circuit that adjusts the voltage of the most significant bit (MSB) at the zero voltage crossing. __________________________________________________________________________________ Specifications: Built around Analog Devices' legendary AD1865N-K R-2R ladder DAC chip. Converts 24-bit 192KHz high-resolution music files from coaxial S/PDIF input. Direct-coupled analog stage with no capacitors or transformers in the output. Left and right channel digital word synchronization to ensure perfect phase and time. Independently adjusted MSB for the L and R channels at the zero voltage crossing. Over 237,000uf of capacitance and 7X Belleson ultralow-noise regulators. Balanced noise-canceling power transformer and ultrafast soft recovery diodes. Lab grade filtered IEC plus multi-stage AC filtering - extremely tolerant of line noise. Convertible 4-point or 3-point Sorbothane feet or spikes for resonance control. High-performance circuit board mounted Furutech FT-903(R) RCA connectors. Field convertible to any international voltage from 100VAC to 250VAC. __________________________________________________________________________________ Professional Reviews:__________________________________________________________________________________ Excerpts from the review of our Mystique DAC by Henry Wilkenson: "After listening to the Mystique for a short while, my initial impression was distinctly analogue quality of the sound." "There was no glare or hard edges to the sound rather; it was rich and laid back." Go to "Audiophilia" to read the full review.__________________________________________________________________________________ Customer Reviews:__________________________________________________________________________________ I have owned the Mystique for about 6 weeks now, and thought I’d add my two bits to Henry’s fine review. I agree with his comments except for one quibble. Where he states “If you are looking for the most extended treble, the deepest bass…. you’ll have to look elsewhere.” My reference points are the Lampizator, Level 4, Gen 4, which I owned for 1.5 yrs., and the Berkeley Alpha DAC (*not* the new Ref series), which I demoed while demoing the Lampy. I found the Berkeley unit very good but it sounded “HiFi” — i.e., something about the presentation always reinforced the perception of listening to recorded music. The Lampy definitely brings home the guts and glory of live music and is a real tribute to the passion of Lukasz Fikus, Mr. Lampizator. Only with the coming of the Mystique did I start to realize where those ultimate pockets of musical nuance and articulation resided, the Lampy didn’t go to those places. Instead, there was a subtle “scrim” or sonic signature, if you will. When it comes to Henry’s reference to “extension” — the Mystique delineates the frequency extremes with the same crystalline force it does everything in between. To me, it seems like listening to a mike feed — the feeling is like a whole bunch of electronics between me and music was removed. More so — by a fair margin — than the Lampy or the Alpha DAC. As for the lack of bells and whistles, I’m totally on board with Ben on that. Kit should be heard and not seen. ;<] – David Z., USA (Comment on Audiophilia) __________________________________________________________________________________ Hello, I think I was one of the first owners of the Mystique DAC, and certainly the first in my country (France). I live with it for 3 months now, and I can say it’s a marvelous piece of pleasure for anyone who’s not searching the most versatile stuff in Earth. It only has 1 input, 1 pair of outputs, no screen, no selectable upsampling, no DSD, no remote of other funny things. It’s small, makes only MUSIC, up to 192KHz (enough for 99% of us I believe…). Analog like, no harshness, but all details you want/need. It reminds me the very nice Counterpoint DA10 with Rapture Card I owned a few years ago (maybe 3 times the price of the Mystique...in the 90’s), same character but with « more » things. More details, bigger imaging and « body » to the music. This Counterpoint was a reference 20 years ago, I think the Mystique can be a reference today, for the price and much higher. I’ve never heard a better DAC yet, but I cant’ honestly say it’s THE best, as I’m not really in high-end…only compared with other deemed stuff like the Metrum Hex or with my precedent one, a Dangerous Source with external PSU and also external clocks. Both at least 50% more expensive if you consider the total price of the boxes, and less natural than the Mystique. One other thing I can say now, is that I can hear much more clearly differences between good and bad masterings in my system. This DAC has not really a sonic signature for me: it’s very « neutral » to my ears, and I’m used to studio stuff (only active pro speakers for the other part of my system). But it doesn’t means that bad recordings are inaudible, just that I can much better hear every instrument, and the way there were recorded/mastered. With XLR outputs and a fully balanced build, I believe Ben could have some success with masterings studios (Apogee, RME, Antelope reference’s DACs or many great pro Brands don’t make better stuff, just much more inputs/outputs for engineering purposes…) With Mojo Audio, small and un-ostentatious things means only Music. You can’t get wrong with this one. – Jeff., France (Comment on Audiophilia) __________________________________________________________________________________ Ben: After burning in the Mystique for a while, I went back to my old DAC for a comparison tonight and it was easy to decide to keep the Mystique. [added: My current DAC was a Red Wine Audio Bellina - battery powered NOS DAC. In the past, I've had a Neko Audio D100Mk2 and Eastern Electric Minimax.] What I used to think was great sounding now sounded muddy and diffuse, with the Mystique easily cutting through that fog, giving a clearer picture on the performers and their intent. Cool. – Mike A., NC (Audiogon feedback) __________________________________________________________________________________ My path to optimum sound via Mojo Audio's Mystique DAC has not been a straight line. I did not purchase this product directly but rather was involved in listening tests during the DAC's development and refinement at the home of head Mojo Benjamin Zwickel. I previously had Benjamin upgrade an MHDT Renaissance DAC [that was] about ten years old [that] I won on an EBAY auction, and the improved sound of that device was astounding on my Apogee Diva main system. Ben invited me to do a series of listening tests as he perfected the design of the Mystique DAC with various upgrades. Over a period of several months I was invited to Ben's living room to hear the next evolution of the Mystique. Eventually I fell in love, and when Ben went to production on the final Mystique design, I asked him if I could buy the prototype board. It looked like a science project, which in a sense it was, and i couldn't be happier! Lets begin at the conclusion: the Mojo Mystique DAC is the most transparent DAC I have ever listened to music through, creating an analogue like sound that is unsurpassed by any other digital equipment i have ever owned. It is a pleasure to listen to, non fatiguing, musical, detailed and dynamic. It is my reference digital gear at this point. I have had very expensive Sony ES CD players, top of the line Marantz players, a very good Monsoon audio Dac, and others, but the Prototype Mystique Dac i listen to on my main computer USB out rig is clearly the most enjoyable! This DAC is NOS, using nonoversampling chips that fly in the face of most new DACs on the market. The Mystique DAC is very revealing, garbage in garbage out, but it is not so cruel to streaming music as to make it impossible to listen to. MP3s and Apple Lossless files sound very good through it. Upgrading digital sources to FLAC is revelatory, giving the music glorious textures, tone and spaciousness that rivals my SOTA Sapphire vinyl source. I wouldn't say it makes all my upsampling DACs sound like toys, but it definitely creates a different kind of listening pleasure which makes them second or third choices to listening through the Mystique. I haven't gone all the way yet and created a Mac Mini server to maximize my digital world. But I’m seriously thinking about it, because the Mystique has revealed that digital can indeed rival analogue is musical delicacy power and sound stage. Bravo MOJO AUDIO!!!!! – Dr. Blue, NM __________________________________________________________________________________ Hello Ben, I'm currently hearing my system with your Dac, and it's really quite impressive. I believe there's also a "burn in" after what it will someway improve even more ? The first impression is the huge width, and the "flesh" (my English words are not so good...), no aggressiveness at all. I think it's what the vinyl lovers calls "analog". – Jean-Francois, France __________________________________________________________________________________ The Mojo Mystique [DAC] review (or, how I learned to stop worrying and stop oversampling…) I’ve been using a prototype of the Mojo Mystique DAC a few months now, and I have some impressions. The rave recommendation by Dr Blue (drblueinnewmexico on Head-Fi) piqued my curiosity. I had the Peachtree GrandPre, which my research had shown was well regarded in the audiophile community and was well reviewed, both as a preamp and a DAC. But, audiophilia nervosa struck (as did my inability to resist bargains), so I went for it. So, when I decided to review, I figured I’d do it like the reviewers in those audiophile mags do, describe the sound, and compare to a known reference. I’d use albums I liked musically and sonically. I started with Aimee Mann “@#%&*! Smilers”, the tracks “Phoenix” and “Borrowing Time”, Sarah Vaughn “How Long Has This Been Going On” (XRCD), the title track, and Guy Van Duser & Billy Novick’s cd, “Every Little Moment”, a demo disc if I’ve ever heard one. (They play guitar and clarinet respectively). I’d already gotten some comments from my wife and a friend on how live the clarinet sounded through the system. To get to the heart of the matter, the tubed Mojo [DAC] is rich sounding, layered, great vocal rendition and instrumental texture presentation. Vocals are particularly well served on the Mojo; they are lifelike, lush, and very present. It portrays the sound stage with depth, and preserves great “pace” (as the Linn people used to stress), gets me tapping the toes/dancing moronically, to my family’s amusement. The Peachtree’s presentation is slightly wider, not as deep, more “dry” sounding. Certainly not bad, in fact I was fine with it before I got the Mojo, but it’s a tad more clinical and less involving. Listening to the Mojo to “Every Little Moment”, the sound and feel of air being blown through the clarinet is tactile, and Van Duser’s playing has the edge and warmth nylon string guitars have. Sarah Vaughn’s lush voice and inimitable vocal calisthenics are intense and rich, her swoops ethereal. Compared to the Peachtree, drums more snap, cymbals more bite and body. Maybe it’s the non-oversampling DAC, as Ben says, doing no harm to the fragile digital signal. Maybe it’s the tube amplification, or choice and matching of other parts. Beats me, I just listen. My ears tell me something is really right, though. It certainly provides good value in the realm of affordable (for high end audio) DACs. – Jack S., NJ __________________________________________________________________________________ I started my Mojo journey with the Mojo Lucent ICs which were simply the best I had heard at the time as compared to anything that wasn’t out-of-this-world costly. I was using a Chris Johnson modified Benchmark DAC (with the Burson discret output stages) with the music server and was loving it. The modified Benchmark is an analog sounding music maker – way better than the stock Benchmark. In fact, the modified Benchmark literally made the stock DAC unlistenable and this is no exaggeration. And the stock DAC is considered a reference by a number of reviewers! Since my experience with Mojo had all been positive and none of what Benjamin had told me regarding his products had been exaggerated, I decided to try the Mojo DAC. Glad I did. Whether it is the lack of upsampling or the lack of sound degrading filters or the superior parts used, the DAC was a move up from the modified Benchmark – in some very important ways. The Mojo DAC was more detailed, dynamic (by a small amount), much more organic and simply more musical. The Mojo DAC just presents the music in a way that to the ear and brain is simply right – more like real music. Hard to define, but you know it when you hear it. Interesting enough, prior to the Mojo DAC, I greatly preferred Amarra in my system, but after the Mojo DAC, I prefer Audirvana with its bit-perfect, unadulterated signal. I think this may be a nod to the way the Mojo just lets the music flow without any need of software manipulation. I always recommend the Mojo DAC (and its other products) to anyone auditioning anything even close to their price range. I don’t see how anyone can go wrong when Mojo Audio give you 45-days to audition their products. – Owen S., FL __________________________________________________________________________________ Needless to say I was fairly impressed with Ben's power cords; so much so that I asked him to modify my MHDT Havana DAC. I sent it to him and he immediately informed me I needed to sell my DAC and demo his latest creation. I went to Ben's home with the intention of being underwhelmed by big words and decent tunes. The differences between this...DAC and the Havana were night and day. The Mojo Audio DAC was more refined, lower noise, bigger, bolder and more organic. These babies weren't even in the same league. Ben has since upgraded the DAC about 5 times, each time sending me a new iteration to test and evaluate. The latest version having transformed..to a piece of gear that could be lived with for a good long time. At this DAC's price point it is a truly wonderful piece of gear. I can say from experience that the Mojo Audio DAC is very much competitive with the best out there. I found that the Mojo DAC easily bested Musatex Bitstream, Bel Canto, Benchmark, and PS Audio Perfect Wave all of which I've had fly through my system. – Ryan M.,NC (Owner, Core Audio Technology) __________________________________________________________________________________ Rarely can I say I've been so impressed with a company or their products. After I replaced all the power cords in my system with the Mojo I tried his interconnects. Same results. I sold off my high end wires used and had money left over. Ben had been telling me about a DAC prototype he was working on. I've been a vinyl guy for many years. The big reason I have a digital system is I can't find the new music I like on vinyl so I don't have a choice. All I can say is the Mojo DAC sounds more like analogue than anything I've ever heard. In some ways it actually sounds better than vinyl and in some ways not quite as good. In any event, I don't find it a compromise to buy CDs anymore. I've had some big names like the Benchmark DAC1, Consonance Droplet, Shanling 200 (with level 2 upgrades), Wadia, Accuphase, Teac VRDS, and even some modified vintage gear that weighed as much as a boat anchor and had a Philips TDA1541 chip in it. They were not even close to Ben's DAC. Ben tells me he's working on a DAC that play native 24/192 files and will also be non-oversampling and have a USB input. He says it should be out some time next year. I told him to put my name at the top of the list to buy one. Every product I've bought from Mojo sounds natural, musical and coherent just like they say. With a 30 day money back guaranty and 90 day upgrade option its a real no brainer. – Rooney, Pittsburgh, PA__________________________________________________________________________________

Danish Audio Design Dac 06
About the DAC 06 (110v or 220v) Even though the DAC 06 is called the entry model, there is not much that is “entry” about it! First of all, it is a very musical sounding DAC. The drawback with many modern up sampling DA converters is that, in all their analytical presentation, there is a digital harshness that simply isn´t pleasant. In the DAC 06 you have the details, the dynamics, a soundstage that certainly is both deep and wide whenever the recording allows it to be, there´s air/space around the instruments AND there is a musical flow. We invite you to come and listen to the DAC 06…It brings life into music! Tech Talk This converter is based on the Burr Brown DAC chip DSD1792. This is a DAC chip designed for high end applications. The Receiver is a Crystal CS8416, which can handle up to 8 inputs, although in this construction only four is used. The power supply is based on high quality regulators LT317 / LT337 for the analogue section, and LP2951 for the digital section. The construction is fed from four different windings from a well over-dimensioned transformer. And six different supplies are included on the PCB giving a clean and stable supply for each circuit. The output stage is made of the LM6172 op-amp, which is a very high slew rate / bandwidth amplifier. The PCB is specially made for audio, and has been manufactured using a specially plating process. This process is usually reserved for Space applications. The process gives a very fine and compact cobber structure. Every board is hand soldered to insure a strong and lasting connection. And different types of solder are used for the analogue and digital parts. For the analogue section a special clean tin is used, this is an ESA / Space approved tin. This is new tin and not reused tin as in most ordinary solder wire. The ACCUSTIC ARTS® TUBE DAC II – MK 2 A) The philosophy of the TUBE DAC II – MK 2 The ACCUSTIC ARTS® TUBE DAC II – MK 2 is an outstanding, highly precise digital to analog converter layouted in a so called “Tube-Hybrid” concept. This concept combines the advantages of the solid state technology with the advantages of the tube principle, however without the specific disadvantages of tubes. To use the advantages of this concept to full capacity, a very elaborate, digital signal processing was integrated, which only enables the extraordinary precision and musicality of this Tube-Hybrid concept. The TUBE DAC II - MK 2 is the ACCUSTIC ARTS® reference in the high end D/A converter segment and intended for the music lover who appreciates the precision of digital sources, yet doesn’t want to abandon the outstanding sound of top analog units. The TUBE DAC II - MK 2 is therefore the perfect solution for “audiophile gourmets”, who do not so much care about superficial grandstanding but are looking for a maximum of precision, authenticity and musicality. Preferably the TUBE DAC II - MK 2 should be operated with a high quality CD transport, for example the brilliant ACCUSTIC ARTS® DRIVE II. B) The digital signal processing of the TUBE DAC II - MK 2 1. A brief overview During the development of the digital signal processing great importance was attached to highest precision and attention to detail, which is why an improved method compared to the currently common “upsampling principle” has been implemented. Digital signal processing: First of all an extraordinary precise digital receiver is being used for reception of the incoming digital signal (for example from a CD transport, a computer or notebook), processing and routing of same to an elaborately designed 32 bit Microcomputer. This excellent Microcomputer is the heart of the digital section in the TUBE DAC II – MK 2 and, apart from a high precision quartz crystal-oscillator, also contains a 32 bit digital filter and 26(!) parallel operating processors (so called multiplying processors). The multiplying processors are scanning the incoming signal and finally calculate two digital 32 bit signals, one for the right and one for the left channel. All digital operations are therefore taking place with the accuracy of true 32 bit instead of the otherwise standard 16 to 24 bit. The following conversion of these two 32 bit signals into analog signals is taking place in two separate D/A conversion chips, and therefore also completely discrete by channel and of highest precision. The resulting two analog signals are finally processed by an elaborate filter circuit in accordance with the Tube-Hybrid concept and leave the TUBE DAC II – MK 2 either via balanced XLR-outputs or unbalanced RCA outs. 2. The digital signal processing in detail A common upsampling D/A converter scans the digital input signal, for example from a CD with a frequency of 44.1 kHz, with a higher frequency (e.g. 192 kHz sampling rate). Indeed the individual time segments between the scans are getting very short by this means and the accuracy is increased, however as a matter of principle all upsampling methods have the disadvantage that with higher frequencies the noise is also increasing significantly. This unwanted noise has to be removed afterwards by the usage of filters, which again can lead to sonic interference of the music signal. The 32 bit Microcomputer of the TUBE DAC II – MK 2 is also recomputing the digital input signal, however with superior and more elaborate technology in comparison with the common upsampling principle. This works as follows: The digital input signal with a maximum word length of 24 bit which has been received and processed by the digital receiver is now first of all undergoing an 8-times oversampling Now follows the key step, as this signal is now scanned parallel thus exactly simultaneously by the means of the integrated 26 multiplying processors. From these 26 single values the processors then compute an absolutely precise digital signal with the resolution of true 32 bit by the usage of the so called mean value method. The accuracy achieved by this method is significantly superior to the upsampling principle. In addition to that nearly no high frequency noise is generated, which is why there is no need to use high frequency filters, which would interfere and change the music signal in the high frequency range and have a bad influence on the sound. But that’s not all! The integrated 32 bit digital filter of the Microcomputer operates absolutely isochronal for both the right and the left channel. This is possible because 2(!) data lines are used for the new computed 32 bit signal and not just one data line as usual. (For comprehension: When using only one data line there is always a minimal time difference between right and left channel which can lead to an unnatural acoustic pattern.) The following conversion from the digital into an analog signal is taking place completely separated for the left and the right channel and as mentioned previously 100% isochronal. To fully utilize these advantages, two D/A converter chips are used, one for the right and one for the left channel. C) The analog signal processing: The tube-hybrid concept Apart from the very elaborate technology used for the conversion of the digital into an analog signal, the analog signal processing is based on a Tube-Hybrid concept. In this concept the tube is used only where it makes sense physically and soundwise, which is the second stage of our analog filter stage, a so called “GIC filter”. The advantages of a tube in this filter circuitry: - very high impedance - very high bandwidth - very low distortion factors and a “good-natured” distortion spectrum - “analog” and very precise sound performance We use only tested and additionally hand selected dual triodes. The tubes are run more than 100 hours in a special lab test prior to delivery. After completion of this lab test the unit is tested again by our Audio Precision® test system. During development of this concept it was additionally paid attention to the fact that the working points of the tubes are set automatically and without readjustments. E.g. even after an exchange of tubes it is “plug and play”. The typical disadvantages of tubes are eliminated with this concept. The following impedance conversion stage operates with the world-wide renowned Burr Brown® amplification chip OPA627®. Totally 10 pieces of this exclusive and extraordinary amplification chips are being used in the TUBE DAC II – MK 2. The TUBE DAC II – MK 2 provides balanced XLR-outputs as well as unbalanced RCA outs. The balancing is accomplished by means of OPA627® chips. TUBE DAC II-MK2 highlights Audiophile reference D/A-converter with a so called "tube hybrid" concept Special and unique 2 x 32 Bit / 192 kHz technology with simultaneous digital signal processing, separately for right and left channel 7 digital inputs: - 3 inputs (2 x COAX, 1 x TOSLINK) optimized for HD playback up to 192 kHz - 1 USB input optimized up to 96 kHz - 3 inputs (XLR, COAX, BNC) optimized for lower frequencies up to 48 kHz Extremely elaborate digital signal processing supported by an unique 32 bit Microcomputer The 32 bit Microcomputer contains e.g.: - High precision crystal oscillator - 32 bit digital filter (including "de-emphasis" technology) - 26 parallel working multiplier processors Advantages of this "tube hybrid" technology: - very high impedance - very high bandwidth - very low distortion factors and a perfect distortion spectrum - "analog" and sound performance of outstanding precision Easy exchange of tubes without any adjustments ("plug and play") Professional Class A output stage using technology derived from studio engineering All components are of outstanding quality (e.g. 10 pcs Burr Brown® OPA 627) and additionally selected 2 premium quality rotary switches with gold-plated silver contacts 2 magnetically shielded, encapsulated toroidal core transformers ("Made in Germany") of premium quality for high output reserves Very high power supply capacity (approx. 84,000 µF totally) Extremely stable and resonance optimized housing, primarily made of massive aluminium plates; turning knobs made of massive and chromed brass ACCUSTIC ARTS® TUBE DAC II-MK2 is "Handmade in Germany" Should you find any Hi Fi product we offer from an Authorized Dealer in the USA for a lower price than the price you paid to us, we will gladly refund to you the difference plus 10% of that difference. Astell&Kern 120 (RWAK B)
The goal of the RWAK120-S (and B - read lower in the post) modification is to transform the stock AK120 into the ultimate digital audio player (DAP) used exclusively to send a line level output signal to your portable headphone amplifier. We achieve this by: Replacing the two stock Wolfson WM8740 dac chips with the premium WM8741 chips Configuring the WM8741s to run in “hardware mode” – eliminating the digital volume control processing Configuring the WM8741s to use their “minimal phase digital filter” option Hardwiring the stereo line-out signal to the 3.5mm (1/8”) stereo output jack (formerly the headphone output jack), hence completely bypassing the headphone output stage Removing the unused digital volume control wheel and installing a higher quality 3.5mm (1/8") stereo line-out jack that is hard-wired to the line-out signal. Installing 1000uF super-low ESR capacitor across the battery rail for increased dynamics and noise filtering Digital Volume Control and Minimal Phase Digital Filter with the WM8741The stock AK120 uses two Wolfson WM8740 dacs configured in “software mode.” This means that the AK120 software configures the dac sand allows for a digital volume control of the unit. We discovered that even with the volume set to MAX (setting 75), the output voltage of the WM8740 signal is still attenuated in the digital domain. The premium WM8741 is not a drop-in replacement for the WM8740 in the AK120. This is because the software control of the WM8740 does not control the WM8741 in the same way. We therefore have to hardwire the WM8741 chips (pulling up certain pins to logic HIGH, and pulling down certain pins to logic LOW) to configure them to run in “hardware mode.” This means they are NOT controlled by software. The digital volume control is eliminated and does not alter the digital bit stream entering the dac, and we manually configure the WM8741 chip to use their optional minimal phase digital filter. The result is a more natural, organic sound that is lively, finely-nuanced, open and transparent, and extended – what you should expect from a true reference quality source component!More impressive than its superior technical specifications (e.g. 8db greater SNR and Dynamic Range) compared to the WM8740, the WM8741 can be configured to use a “minimal phase digital filter” for the data prior to d/a conversion. Unlike most d/a converter chips that use a standard linear phase digital filter, the WM8741’s selectable minimal phase digital filter has no “pre-ringing” of its impulse response. Pre-ringing is an unnatural side effect of using a linear phase digital filter. Real instruments do not ring before they are excited – a guitar doesn’t produce sound before a string is plucked, a piano doesn’t not produce a sound before a key is pressed, and the impulse response of a minimal phase filter does not have prea-ringing and therefore produces a more natural sound.Line outThe RWAK120-S modification also hardwires the analog line-output stage following the WM8741 directly to the headphone output jack. Therefore, the headphone output stage is completely bypassed and the headphone output jack is converted to a true, 2Vrms line-output.Hardware volume control removalSince the digital volume control functionality is completely disabled, we also remove the volume wheel that exits from the left side of the AK100, and we install a new, higher quality 3.5mm (1/8") stereo jack in its place. RWAK120-BThe RWAK120-B modification is identical to the RWAK120-S, however we install a 3.5mm TRRS jack (4-pin) where the unused volume control was located, and hard-wire this jack directly to the balanced analog output sections of the WM8741 dac chips. This provides a true balanced output signal to feed the balanced input of external headphone amplifiers that offer this feature (e.g. ALO RX3, RSA SR71B). The headphone output jack is still converted to a single-ended line out, just like the RWAK120-S modification. So you obtain the modded SE ane BAL outputs with the RWAK120-B modification, making it the most versatile AK120 modification!
Aum Acoustics Dual DC Power Supply - 12VDC & 5VDC for D...
Aum Acoustics Dual 12VDC / 5VDC Power Supply (500mA Maximum Rating for both 12 & 5 volt DC outputs) Brand New & Just Manufactured & Tested Being Sold for Raw Parts Cost (No Markup) Parts Cost is Disclosed in Attached JPG File Price = $502.35 + Actual Shipping Cost (Normal Selling Price = $799.) I’m selling a very unique brand new dual DC power supply. This unit has a single 12VDC output (500mA maximum) to power an appropriate 12VDC DAC and a 5VDC USB in and USB out output (500mA maximum) to clean USB power coming from a computer or audio server. Basically, you connect the USB cable from your computer or sever to the USB input of this dual power supply. You then connect a 2nd USB cable from the power supply’s USB out connector and connect that to either your USB connection on your DAC or ideally to a high quality USB to SPIDF converter and then to your DAC. The two converters that work perfectly with this solution are the Audiphilleo (both models) or the SOTM converter. Both do not require an output greater than 500mA. The 12VDC output is used to power your DAC component (either a DSPeaker Dual Core, a Chord Hugo, or equivalent). I sized the incredibly robust 1/8” aircraft aluminum chassis (with ½” extruded vibration ribs) to match the footprint of the DSPeaker Dual Core room correction/DAC component. The Dual Core and my dual power supply have an identical footprint: (9.25″ wide x 5.75″ deep) and can be stacked one on the other if you like. DUAL CORE – SOTM USB CONVERTER – AUM ACOUSTICS DUAL POWER SUPPLY SOLUTION Because the Dual Core only has an optical input (in addition to its much lower quality USB input) I found the best optical USB converter to be made by SOTM. It is the ultimate converter to substantially increase the sound quality of the Dual Core unit. However, my favorite USB to SPIDF converter is actually the Audiophilleo but it does not have an optical out. So for the Dual Core, the SOTM converter and my dual 12VDC/5VDC power supply provides an ideal and incredible improved sound quality substantially over just using the stock wall wart supply and the USB port input connection. DSPEAKER DUAL CORE PROBLEMS I have had serious problems with Tim Ryan at Simplifi Audio and will never order anything from him again. He is the North American distributor for DSpeaker! He also has taken over $13,000 of my hard earned money and run off with it. I have a court judgement against him and find his business practices lacking to say the least. Here’s a link to my webpage that describes the problems I’ve had with him. I definitely would not recommend that anyone order a DSPeaker Dual Core from this guy just to use my dual power supply. Be very careful here: http://aumacoustics.com/timryan/ CHORD HUGO – AUDIOPHILLEO – AUM ACOUSTICS DUAL POWER SUPPLY SOLUTION I also use the Audiophilleo and a Chord Hugo with this same dual power supply and receive a superb increase in audio quality. FINE PRINT Please realize that some components require a power supply with a higher output (i.e. 1 amp or more) and you cannot use this power supply on those kinds of components. If you purchase this dual power supply, please check the requirements of the components you desire to power with my unit. If you don’t, you could “fry” this power supply if you connect it to power hungry DC components! This is one of the finest 500mA max output dual power supplies made. It sounds better than the dual power supply built by Teddy Pardo. I purchased both the USB power and the dual 12V power supply built by Teddy Pardo to make a direct comparison. For components that require 500mA or less output, the Aum Acoustics power supply sounds better. INCLUDED CABLE I use a Switchcraft DC power connector on the rear of this dual power supply. The power jack is threaded and required the matching Switchcraft plug. I provide a power cable with this plug on one end and the other end is terminated with a molded 2.1mm male power connector. This connector fits the DC jack on the DSPeaker Dual Core, the Chord Hugo, and numerous other DC components. However, you might find the need for a different termination plug style. If so, snip (or have someone else do the simple modification) the molded male plug off from the end of this cable and re-terminate with your desired connector. I do not include a cheap power cord with this unit. A decent low cost audiophile quality power cord (or better) will make a positive increase in sound quality and I don’t believe in including the poor sounding $5 cables that our industry uses. Use a cable you already have or purchase a low cost good quality power cable (your choice). Because I’m selling this unit with no markup for labor or profit, you are purchasing it “as is”. I warranty that it will work out of the box but I cannot be responsible if you damage either power supply by connecting it to a power hungry component that requires more than 500mA output. I can, however, rebuild either power supply or both if necessary and will be glad to do so if needed but at actual parts cost. I do have spare parts in stock to build another full power supply. Once again, I won’t charge for labor if you screw up. The chassis that I use is incredibly robust and this power supply should last for many years and provide excellent use. PAYMENT I will accept PayPal for this purchase but this will probably be the last time I use PayPal. I've had poor experience with this company and will be switching to Stripe in the future for credit card transactions! QUESTIONS? Let me know if you have any questions.
